Our exhibition halls, the largest in Eastern Mediterranean are located at Dermatas Bay and spread over a total area of 3500 m2, in the renovated building of the old electricity plant of the city.

Here you can discover the natural environment of Crete and the Eastern Mediterranean through original and innovative exhibits.

Getting here

By foot

The Natural History Museum of Crete locates at the coastal front of Heraklion, and is a short walk from the city centre. Only 9 minutes (750m) away from the Morosini fountain (Lions).

The museum is located 1.8km away from the harbour of Heraklion. It is a pleasant walk through the city’s coastal front, passing by the Venetian harbour and the Koules fortress. On your way here, you can also enjoy the majestic view of the Cretan Sea and the islet of Dia.

By car

There is no designated parking area on the museum site. Nevertheless, there is an underground municipal parking across the street (DEPANAL tel.0030 2810 285734). There is also a free parking area across Talos Plaza Mall, 1km west of our site.

By bus/coach

We are 1,7 km away from the central coach station (KTEL Heraklion – Lasithi SA, tel. 0030 2810 246530). It connects the city with other cities and villages on the island.

In great proximity to the coach station, you can also find the Harbour terminal bus stop (Heraklion City Bus, 2810 226065, 5:30 – 21:00). There is also a route from Heraklion airport (Heraklion City Bus – Airport bus station 2810 220795, 05:30 – 21:00).

Finally, our museum stands 850m away from the Chanioporta coach station (KTEL Heraklion – Lasithi SA – Chanioporta station tel. 0030 2810 255965), connecting the city with other sites of the region.
